Edward RosenBerg III is a composer/performer residing in Brooklyn, N.Y. He studied saxophone at the Eastman School of Music, composition at Queens College, and counterpoint with Paul Caputo. He holds a PhD in Composition from Stony Brook University.
Ed has performed as a saxophonist/clarinetist/keyboardist/beat-boxer/etc. with a variety of jazz/rock/new-music groups including: Anti-Social Music, the Brooklyn Philharmonic, Asphalt Orchestra, Fireworks Ensemble, Talking Band, Amy Lynn & The Honey Men, Euphonique Saxophone Quartet, Ensemble Signal, Liz Roche Dance Company, and the Bottlenote Music Collective in Dublin.
Edward has also performed regularly with the Mettawee River Theater Company.
In 2019, Ed worked as a substitute conductor in Oklahoma! on Broadway, doubling on Accordion and Drumset.
Edward is a founding member of the instrumental prog-jazz-metal group, Jerseyband. The group has recorded 7 albums and have played throughout the U.S. and Europe.
Additionally, Ed enjoys making grind-core music with Heart of Barf and meditative drone-based prog-rock with Glue Gun Optimism. He also makes children's music with his sister in The Green Orbs. and is member of the trio Kilter which released its debut album AXIOM in 2020.
Edward writes music for his own groups, but he composes regularly in a variety of other contexts. His works have been performed by the International Contemporary Ensemble, Cadillac Moon Ensemble, Anti-Social Music, ~NOIS Saxophone Quartet, and the Tokyo Brass Arts Orchestra, among others. In recent years, he has been commissioned by Google, ~NOIS, and Double Standard. His short chamber-opera, Healing, premiered in 2019.
Ed teaches privately in New York City. He has also worked in the classroom teaching group lessons at the Bronx House, giving song-writing workshops for kids with The Green Orbs, and teaching a variety of undergraduate music theory courses while at Stony Brook University. In 2005, he co-authored a method book with Walt Weiskopf entitled Beyond The Horn, published by Jamey Aebersold Jazz.
